The Village of Mount Prospect has substantially completed construction of the Central Road and Cathy Lane Crosswalk Project, including installing dedicated left turn lanes on Central Road. This project will increase safety for pedestrians by providing a modern crossing across Central Road leading to the Central Community Center. This includes a pedestrian refuge island and rectangular rapid flashing beacons, similar to the crossing at Melas Park and Central Road. Additionally, the project will increase vehicle safety by widening Central Road to provide dedicated left turn lanes at Cathy Lane, removing left turn queues from the travel lanes. The physical improvements are complete, and the mast arms and electronics will be installed this spring.

At the beginning of construction, a detour will be required for roadway widening at the northbound entrance of Millers Lane off Central Road and southbound Cathy Lane at Central Road.  Vehicles can enter Cathy Lane from Central Road throughout construction but must exit at Millers Lane right turn only onto Central Road.  See Vehicle Detour Plans and Map in the Documents section. The Detour is expected to be in place from August 17 to  September 12.

Will sidewalk access be available during the project?

No.  The existing sidewalk will be closed for part of the project due to the nature of the improvements.  Residents can use the sidewalk on Whitegate Drive (south of Central Road) as an alternative route; see the detour map in the DOCUMENTS section.  The Contractor will be placing signs as needed throughout construction.
