The Village of Mount Prospect is proud to recognize and pay tribute to Mount Prospect’s military heroes for their sacrifice and service through a new Veteran Banner recognition program honoring current and former Mount Prospect residents who served in a branch of the United States military. To be eligible, a veteran, living or deceased, must have strong ties to Mount Prospect at some point in his or her life.

There is no cost to participate in the program or have a banner created.

Due to a limited number of banner locations, applications are on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of applicants approved annually will be limited to a maximum of 70. The Village will notify the chosen applicants. Applicants not chosen for the current year will be placed on a waiting list for a future year. Applicants placed on the waiting list will be contacted in the year their banner is approved to confirm interest in having the banner installed.

Veteran Banners will be displayed within the downtown corridor. Banner sites may be added or removed at the discretion of the Village. The Village will install each banner for two (2) four (4) week periods totaling eight (8) weeks. The first period will occur two (2) weeks prior to Memorial Day and conclude two (2) weeks after Memorial Day.  The second period will occur two (2) weeks prior to Veterans Day and conclude two (2) weeks after Veterans Day. After being displayed for Memorial Day and Veterans Day, the banner will be retired. Retired banners will be returned to the applicant or the applicant’s family.

To participate, fill out the Veteran Banner Application, and submit a high-resolution digital photo of the veteran in his/her uniform. The Village will create a banner to be displayed on Northwest Highway to honor a Mount Prospect veteran.
