Home MenuCrime Statistics
The Mount Prospect Police Department understands that knowledge is a key factor in the overall safety of the public. Residents who are aware of the types of crimes occurring in their jurisdiction are more likely to practice situational alertness, report suspicious actions and take pre-emptive steps to avoid victimization. For that reason, the Mount Prospect Police Department presents the following overview of crime and incident data.
As a reminder, the Mount Prospect Police Department moved to a new system of tracking and reporting crime and incident data to the state of Illinois in March of 2021. This move from Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) to National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) was mandated for all law enforcement agencies by the federal government. The reporting differences between the two systems make it difficult to compare our current NIBRS data to the UCR data of years past. NIBRS offers several benefits to police agencies. These reporting differences will provide a more detailed description of reported crimes, offer the Mount Prospect Police with actionable intelligence to find patterns and trends, and take preemptive actions against future crimes.
Find the list of NIBRS Offense Definitions here.
Learn more about NIBRS on the FBI.gov website.
The published enclosed totals are subject to change based on NIBRS verification process.
