The 2024 Strategic Plan includes a new water main construction project that will extend the Village-owned potable water distribution system to the south side of Oakton Street right-of-way. This project is limited in scope but will provide water to recently annexed areas of Lake Michigan. Presently, there are no fire hydrants, and property owners in the area receive water from privately owned shallow groundwater wells.
The Village of Mount Prospect wishes to extend its water service area to include the Oakton area, which is located between Terminal Drive, Lexington Drive, and I-90. This project addresses the water main extension from the intersection of Terminal Drive and Badger Road along Oakton Street to the intersection of Lexington Drive and Oakton Street. The project area is primarily commercial and industrial and involves the installation of approximately 2,000 linear feet of 12-inch diameter ductile iron water main.
Providing a reliable water supply and fire protection is a top priority for the Village of Mount Prospect. Meeting this challenge requires the understanding and goal of installing 2,000 feet of water main within the Village-owned potable water distribution system in a critical area with unique challenges related to permitting, constructability, and easement acquisition.
