The Village of Mount Prospect maintains the 11 retention basins in the Kensington Business Park. Per the agreement made with the business park in the 1980s, Village maintenance includes sediment dredging, slope erosion protection, and outlet structure upkeep. This year, the Village will perform maintenance work to the retention basin pond #2.
The project will involve pumping water out of the basin into an adjacent storm sewer, dredging approximately 1,850 cubic yards of sediment from the pond bottom, and disposing of the materials generated during dredging. Then, the bottom and sides of the basin will be reshaped to conform to the original design. At the end of the project, the shoreline will be stabilized with stone, and the side slopes will be regraded. A seeding and erosion blanket will be placed on the regraded side slopes and other disturbed areas. Subsequent rainfall will naturally refill the retention basin.
All access to the basin will be via Business Center Drive. The contractor has been informed that construction equipment will not be allowed in any private property parking lot unless the owner grants permission. While construction vehicles will enter and exit the basin via Business Center Drive, no activity will require the road to be closed during construction.
