The Mount Prospect Public Works Department is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste collection event:

The list of eligible items includes:

| Cleaning products | Drain cleaners |
| Gasoline | Herbicides |
| Insecticides | Latex paint |
| Lawn and garden chemicals | Mercury and mercury containing items |
| Oil-based paint | Paint thinners |
| Poisons/pesticides | Pool chemicals |
| Propane cylinders | Solvents |
| Used motor oil |
Ineligible items (items that will not be accepted)
| Agricultural waste | Ammunition |
| Business/commercial waste | Explosives |
| Farm machinery oil | Fire extinguishers |
| Fireworks | Institutional waste |
| Lead acid batteries | Medical waste |
| Smoke detectors |
