On Thursday, September 12, 2024, at approximately 9:40 PM, the Mount Prospect Police Department responded to the 900 block of South Elmhurst Road (Route 83) for a report of a single vehicle traffic crash involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, officers located an unoccupied motorcycle in the front yard and a motorcyclist lying on the ground of a driveway nearby with serious injuries. The lone rider of the motorcycle was identified as 22-year-old Alexis Martinez of Mount Prospect. The preliminary investigation indicated that Martinez was traveling southbound on Elmhurst Road (Route 83) from Sunset Road when he lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle left the roadway and Martinez was ejected from the motorcycle. Martinez was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Based on witness statements and scene evidence, investigators are looking into speed and mechanical issues as contributing factors to the crash.
This fatal traffic crash is currently being investigated by the Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team. Elmhurst Road was closed between Sunset Road and Golf Road and reopened at approximately 1:20 AM. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.
