On September 1, 2024, at approximately 10:16 PM, Mount Prospect Police Officers responded to the BP Gas Station, 800 South Elmhurst Road, Des Plaines, for a report of a person who had been shot. Officers arrived and learned that the victim, a 33-year-old male, had been shot multiple times while attending a barbecue north of the RecPlex, 420 West Dempster Street, Mount Prospect. The victim was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where he was treated for his wounds, which are not believed to be life threatening. No other people reported being injured.

The initial investigation revealed the victim was attending a barbecue in the park area north of the RecPlex when two people, known to the victim, approached him. The two people began arguing with the victim and then produced a handgun and started shooting at the victim. The victim was shot multiple times and fled toward the BP Gas Station. Both offenders, described as male whites with blonde colored hair, fled the area in a white older model Chevrolet conversion van in an unknown direction. Crime Scene Technicians processed the scene and with the assistance of the Rolling Meadows Police Department K9, multiple shell casings were located.
