On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at approximately 12:20 PM, the Mount Prospect Police Department responded to the intersection of Rand Road (Route 12) and Euclid Avenue for a report of a traffic crash involving two (2) vehicles. Upon arrival, with the Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights Fire Departments, a gray colored Mazda SUV and a white colored Kia SUV were located in the intersection. While paramedics were attending to the occupants of the vehicles, the driver of the Kia went into cardiac arrest and life-saving measures began. The driver, later identified as Jacqueline Bridges, 77 years old, of Mount Prospect, was transported to Northwest Community Hospital, where she later died. The driver of the Mazda, a 29-year-old woman from Des Plaines, and the passenger in her vehicle reported no injuries as a result of the crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed Bridges’ vehicle was traveling northwest bound on Rand Road (Route 12) when it struck a Mazda SUV that was turning left onto eastbound Euclid from southeast bound Rand Road.
This traffic crash is currently being investigated by the Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team, along with the assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team. Portions of Rand Road (Route 12) and Euclid Avenue were closed and reopened at approximately 6:30 PM. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing and more information will be provided when it is available.
