The Village of Mount Prospect is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Payroll Accountant in the Finance Department. This full-time position works under the direction of the Deputy Director of Finance. Job duties include preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll for Village employees, monthly payrolls for elected officials, and special payrolls as needed. Preparation of payroll reports and deposits for federal, state, Medicare and Social Security contributions and other withholdings such as section 457 plans and wage deductions. Filing of federal and state withholding reports on a timely basis. Creates and reconciles schedules to the general ledger balances, analyzes accounts to determine the appropriateness of the balance. Maintains supporting documentation and develops or recommends adjustments to journal entries when necessary. Prepares monthly IMRF report and payment. Bi-weekly tracking of FLSA hours for affected employees. Compiles and generates W-2’s at year-end and files all necessary reports in accordance with prescribed federal and state government requirements. Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related field with major coursework in accounting. Candidate should also have taken coursework or participated in training in human resources and payroll practices through Payroll.org or equivalent association. Certified Payroll Professional designation is desirable. Minimum of 2 years of payroll experience with a working knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Candidates should possess knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Experience handling payroll using New World or other Tyler ERP is preferred. Candidate should have excellent organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail.
Starting salary for this position is $66,726-$80,071 annually, depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits include IMRF pension, sick, personal and vacation time, comprehensive health plans, life insurance and a 457 retirement plan.
