CRUMLEY DETENTION BASIN IMPROVEMENTS

Description: Construction improvements to Crumley Basin will address deficiencies in stormwater conveyance, mitigate soil erosion, and correct issues within existing stormwater infrastructure to ensure the proper operation and enhanced performance of the basin’s stormwater system.

PRIVATE PROPERTY DRAINAGE SOLUTIONS 

Description: Residents facing severe drainage problems will pay to share solutions, such as installing new drainpipes and a rain garden. 

The Village proactively works with residents to solve private drainage problems. Some private properties have drainage issues after several inches of rainfall. In some circumstances, the Village shares the cost to install drainage improvements at a variety of locations each year. Should you experience substantial drainage issues after lots of rainfall, contact Public Works to discuss the private property drainage solution. 

Location: The locations change each year based on the severity of the drainage problems.

MELAS-MEADOWS PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
Description: Construction of a pedestrian bridge across Northwest Highway and the Union Pacific railroad tracks connecting Melas Park and Meadows Park
Location: Northwest Highway east of Waterman Avenue

CENTRAL ROAD & WELLER LANE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS
Description: Upgrades to existing crossing to match the recently constructed crosswalk at Central Road and Cathy Lane
Location: Central Road east of Weller Lane
Schedule: Completed in 2026

NEW SIDEWALK PROGRAM - OAKTON STREET
Description: Install new sidewalks where none currently exist to enhance pedestrian mobility
Location: Oakton Street between Lexington Drive and Badger Road
Schedule: Complete plans and spec Fall 2025. Complete construction 11/2026

NEW SIDEWALK PROGRAM - WOLF ROAD
Description:  Install new sidewalks where none currently exist to enhance pedestrian mobility
Location:  Wolf Road (East side) between Euclid Avenue and Prospect Heights Train Station
Schedule:  Complete construction December 2026

KENSIGTON ROAD BIKE PATH PROJECT
Description: Replacement of sidewalk and stairs with a bike path.  Pedestrian crossing gates at the railroad crossing
Location: Kensington Road from railroad tracks to Burning Bush Lane
Schedule: Construction Fall 2026 through Spring 2027

CDBG SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS
Description: To provide a more convenient and safer pedestrian walkway, the Village of Mount Prospect will be removing and replacing uneven and deteriorated squares of the public sidewalk

BRICK SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT
Description: Assess the brick sidewalk in various locations around Mount Prospect for areas of repair and replacement

STREET RESURFACING PROGRAM
Description: This program is responsible for a scheduled maintenance activity to preserve a high-quality, 136-mile road network with a 20-year life cycle to ensure safe travel. This program replaces damaged sidewalks, curbs, and structures associated with underground utilities in addition to resurfacing

BURNING BUSH LANE LIGHTING PROJECT
Description: Installation of street lights along Burning Bush Lane between Kensington Road and Euclid Avenue

RAND ROAD LIGHTING PROJECT
Description: Installation of street lights along Rand Road between Camp McDonald Road and Elmhurst Road (IL 83)

Description:  Installation of street lights along Gregory street between Main St (Route 83) and  Waterman Ave

SCHOENBECK ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
Description: Improve Schoenbeck Road from Rand Road to Camp McDonald Road. STP funding has been secured for a portion of the project

WATER MAIN EXPANSION – OAKTON STREET
Description: This project will extend the Village-owned potable water distribution system to a 28-acre area abutting Oakton Street in south Mount Prospect. The area is presently zoned for commercial and industrial uses. Privately owned, shallow groundwater wells presently serve most properties
Location: Oakton Street connects at Lexington, heading west to Badger Road and then north to Terminal Dr
Schedule: Design Engineering begins February 2024, construction bid is let February 2025, and construction completed July 2025

WATER MAIN IMPROVEMENTS
Description: Replacement of deteriorated water main segments is a high priority due to water loss from main breaks and replacement of water mains around newly developed locations to meet fire flow code standards
Location: Prospect Avenue, South Albert Street, South Louis Street, South Pine Street, Can Dota Avenue, Robert Drive and Palm Drive
Schedule: Construction Start – April 2026 – Construction Completed - October 2026

SEWER MAIN LINING
Description: The contractor will install a cured-in-place pipe line into an existing sewer pipe to extend the life of the infrastructure. This method is trenchless, quicker, and safer than traditional open-cut sewer replacement methods

FAIRVIEW GARDENS GRAVITY SEWER CONNECTION
Description: In 2024 the Fairview Gardens Lift Station was abandoned and a new 12” gravity sewer was installed on Horner Lane and Central Road connecting the Villages sanitary sewer in the subdivision to MWRD’s intercepting sewer located at the intersection of Central Road and Wolf Road. The Village has lined all sewer mains and manholes in the subdivision, eliminating all infiltration into the public system. However, 96 homes in the subdivision have drain tiles tied to the sanitary sewer via their home’s sewer lateral. The proposed program would disconnect the homes’ drain tiles from the sanitary service lateral thus reducing unnecessary inflow and infiltration from storm and ground water

RESERVOIR 16 and 17 INSPECTION
Description: Conduct scheduled water tank evaluation and repairs to ensure the availability of INDR-required water storage capacity for the two 1-million-gallon water reservoirs located at Booster Pumping Station 16

Schedule: Completed in 2025

RESERVOIR #4 REHABILITATION PROJECT
Description: Rehabilitation of the 880,000-gallon subgrade concrete water reservoir and Booster Pumping Station 4. The village uses this reservoir during its daily water pumping activities

DEEP WELL 16 REHABILITATION PROJECT
Description: Rehabilitation of the back-up Emergency Deep Well located at the Villages pump station number 16

ALGONQUIN ROAD SANITARY SEWER PROJECT

Description: Installation of sanitary sewer along Algonquin Road from Busse Road to Cedar Glen Drive to increase capacity

Algonquin Road Bike Path & Lighting Improvements

• Description: Completion of Phase I Engineering was in 2022. This year will include Phase II Design and Land Acquisition. CMAQ funding has been secured for a portion of this project

RAND / IL 83 / KENSINGTON ROAD IMPROVEMENTS 

• Description: Roadway widening and traffic signal modernization to improve the operation of the Rand / IL 83 / Kensington intersection.  Street lighting, bike path and sidewalk improvements included.
• Location: Rand Road / IL 83 / Kensington Road
• Schedule: Phase II Engineering (design)  2024/ through 2026. Land Acquisition 2024 through 2026. Construction 2027 through 2028.

BUSSE ROAD RECONSTRUCTION BY COOK COUNTY
