Public Works Department - Foreman (Vehicle Maintenance)

The Mount Prospect Public Works department is seeking a dependable candidate for the position of Public Works Foreman in the Vehicle Maintenance Division.

Essential Functions:

This is a supervisory level position in the vehicle maintenance division. The Vehicle Maintenance Foreman provides leadership and direction to the Vehicle Maintenance staff. The position routinely plans, schedules, assigns and reviews the work of fleet maintenance staff.  Supervises the maintenance, repair and modification of vehicles, police squads, fire apparatus, heavy construction equipment, medium/heavy duty trucks.  This position is considered a working foreman in addition to supervisory responsibilities the individual is expected to perform maintenance responsibilities.  Maintenance responsibilities include trouble shoot and repair gas and diesel engines.  In addition the position performs tasks associated medium/heavy truck braking systems that include hydraulic and air.  Furthermore the position is responsible for maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems, computerized fuel injection, computerized transmissions, and computerized braking systems associated with medium /heavy trucks.  The position is also responsible for trouble shooting and maintaining automobiles, light duty trucks, tractors, fire apparatus, police vehicles and all Public Works related equipment.

The individual will supervise and/or participate in the responsible and professional delivery of a full-range of municipal services and programs including, but not limited to, wastewater collection system maintenance, water distribution system maintenance, street maintenance, building maintenance, storm sewer maintenance, parking lot maintenance, forestry and grounds maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and civic events.  Assist in the planning and implementation of tasks necessary to achieve the goals of the Public Works Department as defined by the Director of Public Works.  Work often entails utilizing manual labor, construction trade skills, and heavy equipment.

Educational Requirements:

Completion of an Associate’s degree or trade degree in automotive technology or related field required

Experience Requirements:

Three (3) years of relevant work experience required. 

Valid Class B driver’s license (CDL) from the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.  Possess Master Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification and Master ASE Master Automotive or ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck certification is required or the ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment.

Starting Rate:  $85,933 - $118,000 depending on qualifications.  Minimum 40 hours per week, Will work a to be determined rotating schedule between Day Shift and Night Shift; Day Shift Monday – Friday, 7am -3:30pm, Night Shift Monday – Friday, 3:30pm – 12am; plus, each foreman serves a rotating “on-call” duty, which occurs once every eight (8) weeks.  Additionally, the foreman may be assigned and rotated, at the employer’s option, to any job, assignment, or any shift.

Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, which includes a drug and alcohol screen and functional job screening. 

Mandatory residency requirement within one year of employment (approximate boundaries are Randall Road on the west, Route 176 on the north, Lake Michigan on the east, Route 64 to the south).
