The deadline for displaying 2009-2010
vehicle stickers was April 30, 2009. The Police Department issues
citations to drivers of locally registered vehicles if the 2008-2009
vehicle sticker is not displayed. Vehicle stickers purchased after
April 30 are subject to a late
payment penalty. The penalty does not apply if you either moved into
the Village or purchased the vehicle within 30 days of the date the
vehicle sticker is purchased. Proof of your relocation or vehicle
purchase is required to receive the waiver of the penalty.
2010-2011 Vehicle
Stickers
2010-2011 Vehicle Stickers are now on sale.
If you purchased a vehicle sticker in 2009, you should be receiving a renewal notice in the mail during the first week of February. If
you have recently moved to the Village or if you do not receive your
renewal notice you must come to Village Hall to
pick up an application. If you have any questions, please call the
Finance Department at 392-6000.
The new vehicle sticker
must be displayed by April 30. Passenger vehicle stickers are $36,
motorcycle stickers are $24, and trucks with B plates, $54. There is
an additional price schedule for trucks based on their individual
weights. There is no increase in fees this year.
Stickers by mail
If you bought one or more stickers last year, you should have
received a renewal application during the first week in February. If
you received a renewal application, you’ll be able to conveniently
purchase your new stickers by mail. If you did not receive an
application, please pick one up at Village Hall.
NOTE: If you had a vehicle sticker
in 2009 and did not receive a renewal application in the mail, this
does not absolve you of the responsibility for buying a new sticker.
Different vehicle than last
year?
If the vehicle(s) you have now isn’t the same as the one you had
when last year’s sticker was purchased, the application form will
contain information about the former vehicle. In that case, just
cross out those details and print the current information on the
application.
Sticker buying in person
If you’d rather buy your new sticker(s) in person instead of by
mail, you can do so at the Village Hall during regular business
hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. For
your convenience, Village Hall will be open the following Saturdays
in April: April 10, 17 and 24 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.
Where can vehicle stickers be
purchased?
All types of vehicle stickers can be purchased any time at
Village Hall. REGULAR PASSENGER STICKERS can be purchased
at Algonquin-Busse Currency Exchange (1725 W. Algonquin Rd). From February 1
through April 30 (in addition to the above location), REGULAR
PASSENGER STICKERS ONLY can also be purchased at the Park District’s RecPlex (420 W. Dempster Street) and Central Community Center (1000
W. Central Road). Senior rate and handicap stickers are not
available at the Currency Exchange or Park District locations.
Late purchase penalty
Beginning May 1, escalating late
purchase penalties will be added to the cost of your sticker. If you
receive a Police Department citation for not having an up-to-date
sticker, you may have to (1) pay a fine, (2) pay the basic cost of
the new sticker, and (3) pay the late purchase penalty. You can
avoid all that by buying your sticker on time.
Penalty exception
The penalty will not initially apply to new Village residents or
to residents who purchase replacement vehicles on or after May 1. In
either case, you’ll have 30 days in which to purchase your sticker.
During the grace period, proof of purchase or move-in date will be
required to assure that a surcharge penalty is not imposed. If you
change vehicles during the year after having bought a current
sticker, a replacement sticker must be obtained within 30 days in
order to qualify for the $5 transfer fee. Bring a legible portion of
the original sticker and your receipt. If you are purchasing new
license plates, you should purchase the sticker within the 30-day
limit and write “applied for” in the space on the application for
license plate information. When you receive the plates, call the
Finance Department and provide the plate numbers.
Senior discount
Senior citizen rates are available for residents 65 and over
(with proof of age). However, just one reduced rate ($12) sticker
per household is allowed and the vehicle must be owned and operated
by the senior for a non-commercial purpose.
Senior rate stickers can only be purchased at Village Hall.
People with disabilities
Certain individuals with disabilities may be eligible to receive
a sticker at no charge. Please contact the Village Finance
Department for more information
