The Village of Mount Prospect was awarded a grant from the Regional
Transportation Authority through their Regional Technical Assistance Program (RTAP)
to evaluate the Village’s public transportation system.
The Village will be holding a series of public meetings to
solicit input from the community residents and business owners about the needs
of the public transportation system in Mount Prospect and potential
redevelopment opportunities in the STAR Line station area. Please contact Clare

Mentor Program Seeks
Volunteers The Mount Prospect mentor program brings together volunteers and school-aged
children from our community in a positive one-on-one relationship. The
program meets for ten weeks during each semester. The mentor and student
work together as part of a group and participate in non-competitive games,
hands-on projects, field trips and guest speakers. We will be having an
orientation and information session at 7pm on August 19 in the community
center at Village Hall. Please RSVP to Judith Rosen, LCSW at 847-870-5680.

Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb
Replacement Program The Village recently received 14,000 free CFL bulbs from the Metropolitan
Mayors Caucus. The CFLs are available at the
Public Works Department, 1700 W. Central Road, during our normal business
hours (Monday-Friday 7:30–5:00 p.m.) You can exchange a couple of old compact fluorescent light bulbs for new CFLs.
Please do not bring your old incandescent bulbs. They can be safety disposed
of in your regular garbage. While the Village is committed to an ongoing CFL
recycling program (you can bring in OLD CFLs any time), the free replacement
CFLs are available only while supplies last. Limited quantities are
available. Limit 10 bulbs per household.
- Family Stress and
Financial Concerns
The economy has been a source of stress for many area residents. Financial
realities such as sky high fuel and grocery bills, job layoffs and home
foreclosures have placed enormous stress on families. Some symptoms of
family stress include depression, anxiety, substance abuse and domestic
violence. If you are feeling overwhelmed, the Human Services Department can
assist you with referrals and support. The department also has a food
pantry, which may help stretch the family resources. To make an appointment
for services or for more information, call 870-5680.
- Food Pantry in
Need of Donations
The Village’s Emergency Food Pantry is currently in need of monetary
donations. With the current downturn of the economy, the pantry emergency
fund is nearly depleted. To donate to the pantry, please drop off donations
at the Human Services Department.
of acceptable/unacceptable items. The food pantry accepts non-perishable
food items. We are currently in great need of baby diapers and paper goods.
If you are able, please help those that are in need.
